Do You Need Sedation Dentistry?

Our Dental Sedation Options

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a prescribed medication that is taken by mouth. Depending on the individual case, it can be taken either an hour before treatment or upon arrival at our office. Depending on the type of medication and potency of the prescription, our patients may feel anything from a moderate decrease in anxiety to feeling so relaxed that they fall asleep in the chair! With this sedation, it may be necessary for a friend or family member to provide transportation home.

Nitrous Oxide

Sometimes called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a gaseous medication inhaled through a nasal mask. Although patients likely won’t laugh, they often feel drowsy and relaxed throughout their treatment. With this sedation, patients will remain conscious, relaxed and responsive throughout their care. After treatment is done, the nitrous oxide is stopped, and only oxygen is breathed until the mask is removed. The effects will wear off quickly, allowing you to drive yourself home.

Healthy Smiles to Last a Lifetime

If the sights, sounds or smells of a dental office make you hesitant to receive dental care, sedation dentistry may be the solution that keeps you in the dental office and away from failing teeth. What many of our patients don’t realize is that receiving routine dental care can help prevent more serious dental issues, and even systemic conditions, from occurring and maintaining excellent oral health. Left untreated, smaller dental issues can create an array of serious conditions for you down the road, including tooth decay, gum disease, pain and discomfort, and even tooth loss. Not only that, the disease-causing bacteria found in gum disease can spread throughout the body and lead to serious systemic health problems, such as diabetes complications, high blood pressure and even cardiovascular disease!

We don’t think anyone should experience these side effects, which is why we encourage everyone with dental fear to consider sedation dentistry in Elyria, OH and Grafton, OH at one of our convenient offices. We also partner with multiple insurance companies to help maximize your insurance benefits so you can receive care that is not only anxiety-free, but affordable. Don’t let your oral health challenge become a whole-body health challenge! Explore your sedation dentistry options with us at Minnillo & Marshall, and receive the life-changing – and possibly life-saving! – dental care you need, in absolute comfort.
